My work as a psychologist can offer invaluable support to cancer survivors by helping them navigate the emotional, psychological, and social challenges that often arise after treatment. Survivors may experience a range of emotions, including fear of recurrence, anxiety, depression, and difficulty adjusting to life after cancer. I can provide a safe space to process these feelings, build coping strategies, and address any trauma or distress. Additionally, therapy can help survivors improve their quality of life by enhancing emotional resilience, improving self-esteem, and fostering a positive outlook as they adjust to a new sense of normalcy. By offering personalized support, I psychologist can guide cancer survivors on their journey to healing, empowering them to thrive beyond their diagnosis.
Part of the process is to support cancer survivors after recovery. This may mean working with them on how to manage the anxiety of it coming back. My work and research with OCD have helped me tremendously in helping my patients navigate the uncertainty that comes with this anxiety. Learning to live with uncertainty is what I help my patients with. It's not easy, but it can be done, and we do it already. I just help people understand and see that.
